Can you wash eyeglasses with water? How to take care of your eyeglasses

Of the vast number of people who wear corrective glasses, most commit the heinous crime almost daily: wiping their glasses with a sleeve or hem of their clothing after breathing on the lenses. This method is not that not the best, it basically has no right to exist.

The simplest solution to the problem

Optical stores sell various liquids and special wipes for cleaning glasses lenses. in fact, ordinary dishwashing detergent is enough for this procedure!

Put literally one tiny drop on the glass, lather and rinse with warm water. Then dry thoroughly with a clean piece of cotton cloth.

Don't use the hem of your shirt, even if it's 100% cotton. It probably has dust on it that can scratch the lens.

How to properly clean plastic lenses

Glass has almost gone out of fashion. Glass lenses are heavy and break easily. Whether it's light plastic! But not everything is so rosy. The plastic is soft and therefore scratches often remain on it, which significantly impair visibility. By the way, these scratches cannot be sanded down later.

The popular method of wiping especially contributes to the appearance of flaws: breathe on the lenses and wipe with what is at hand (even if it is clean paper napkins). The same wipes contain coarse fibers and will scratch the lens very easily.

It is good to use microfiber cloths for dry cleaning during the day, but this procedure will not replace regular washing of glasses with soap and water.

About caring for coated lenses

If you have purchased more expensive plastic lenses that are provided with some kind of coating (anti-reflective, anti-UV, or anti-scratch), then you should remember: never allow the glasses to come into contact with ammonia, bleach, vinegar or cleaning liquid. glass cleaning. These substances will simply destroy the coating.

If you've already tried any of these, then take a look at your lenses. See the little bubbles? This is the result of your efforts.

Finally

Every day in the evening, the effectiveness of your lenses decreases, as oil from your hands and face remains on them. And if, while washing, you put the glasses somewhere on a shelf in the bathroom or leave them on your head like a rim, then microdrops of soapy water, splashes of hairspray and something else like that will also settle on them.

Glasses should be washed every day.

Sometimes patients complain of a significant deterioration in vision, but it turns out that they do not need vitamins and drops, but only soap, warm water and a clean cloth.

Increasingly, young people are complaining about poor eyesight. This is not surprising, because the constant environment of a person with mobile devices with small screens, monitors and displays causes eyestrain.

It is said that we are approaching the age of myopia, when almost everyone will experience a violation of the normal functioning of the muscles of the eyes.

In the modern world, glasses, contact lenses, or surgery are used to correct vision.

Both glasses and lenses need to be properly cared for so that they do not deteriorate before the end of their expiration date and do not bring discomfort to their owner.

In this article, we will look into the care of glasses, as well as what the consequences can be if you handle them carelessly.

Features of different types of glasses

It is known that glasses can be made from different materials, which, in turn, affects the methods of care for them. From this side of view, the lenses of glasses can be divided into two types:

If you do not take into account the lenses, then the frame itself can also be different: metal, plastic, etc.

Both for the first and second types of lenses, you should never use aggressive cleaning solutions. This applies to various alcohols, vinegar, ammonia and similar substances.

All glasses now have protective coatings that extend their life and protect them a little from environmental influences.

When using the above substances, this coating will be damaged or completely disappear. This, in turn, affects visual acuity.

Consequences of improper care

Let's find out what happens if you don't clean your glasses:

  1. The appearance of fatty stains that are difficult to remove.
  2. Deterioration of visual acuity.
  3. Glasses of glasses can easily be scratched.
  4. Glasses will wear out faster.

Many people are indifferent to the care of glasses. They wipe them with their clothes, do not wipe stains and stains. Careless storage will also shorten the life of your glasses.

How to extend the life of glasses?

Let's discuss how to avoid all this. After all, I think each of you wants his glasses to look as good as possible for a long time.

For glass lenses

If the lenses in your glasses are glass, then you can purchase special liquids and wipes for wiping the optics. All this is available in pharmacies.

If the lenses have additional properties, such as anti-glare, a protective layer, etc., then such optics should be handled even more carefully. You need to wipe it down every day.

Care products for such glasses are also separate. Do not use household chemicals as a cleaner, it will quickly ruin your glasses.

For plastic lenses

With such material it is a little more difficult. They scratch, wear out and become unusable faster. The principles of care are similar to glass glasses, but you should treat them more carefully and carefully.

Case

A case is suitable for protecting glasses. This is a great option for people who use glasses for vision not on a regular basis, but for example, when driving a car or when working at a computer.

Cases are not particularly expensive, but can significantly extend the life of your accessory.

If you have purchased a case, then you must constantly monitor its condition.

After all, if a lot of all sorts of different grains of sand and dust get there, then your glasses will quickly become unusable during transportation in it.

Daily Care

You need to wash your glasses every day. During the day, your glasses collect various greasy stains, fingerprints and small particles of any dust. Because of this, by the evening the effectiveness of the glasses is reduced. At the end of the day, be sure to arrange water procedures.

After all, the better the condition in which you keep your glasses, the longer they will last you. Dishwashing liquid is suitable as a cleaning agent.

You can clean the glasses with ordinary soapy water. This must be done by wrapping the fingers with pieces of soft cloth.

After all, no matter how much you wash your hands, a little fat still remains on them, like prints. It should be rinsed on both sides without pressing the lenses.

Water should be around room temperature, or at least not higher than human body temperature.

Finger movements should be from side to side, not circular. Otherwise, soap stains will remain. After finishing the procedure, rinse both sides of your glasses.

Then you need to wipe them dry. Never leave them to dry. When it dries, the water will leave streaks and you will have to start all over again. This method is also suitable for those who use special care products, because it is extremely effective and simple.

An unusual property of glasses after applying a cleaning agent is that they practically do not fog up at first.

When caring for lenses, do not forget to also wipe the frame. It is also recommended to do this with soft napkins. So it will wear out and scratch less, and the original novelty of the coating will last much longer.

For scratches on lenses

If you have scratches on your lenses, you can use the following method to clean them. The easiest method is to use toothpaste. It should be without particles, that is, thick, but without additives, otherwise the glass can be scratched even more.

Squeeze a small amount of paste onto each lens. Rub in circular motions with a cotton pad for several minutes without pressing. If the scratches are small, then once is enough.

Another good remedy for getting rid of scratches is baking soda. It must be diluted to a density and, as in the case of toothpaste, wipe. You can use a polish, but this is fraught with the fact that, through negligence, you can remove the protective layer.

If the weather is bad

If it's cold outside or it's raining heavily, then your glasses can be treated with a home-made composition. Take seven parts of liquid soap, 3 parts of glycerin and a few (preferably four or five) drops of turpentine.

After applying this solution, wipe the glasses dry so that there are no streaks or small drops left.

Common remedies

Let's take a closer look at eyeglass care products. There are a lot of them on the market now. With the advent of new properties in glasses, the range of care products for them has also expanded:

  • Various spray cleaners. They remove germs from the surface of the lenses and remove dirt. They often have antiseptic properties.
  • Special wet wipes. They, unlike conventional ones, do not leave streaks.
  • Lens care kits. In order not to buy everything separately, there are kits for cleaning glasses in stores. It is profitable to buy them if you have started glasses recently. This will help you save some money.
  • Microfiber wipes. They are able to quickly clean your glasses from streaks. This is a very convenient option on a trip or in everyday life, when it is not possible to take with you, for example, the entire care kit. It is important to remember that sometimes these wipes also need to be washed because they get dirty over time and become less effective. It is recommended to store them inside your case so that the napkin collects as little dirt from the environment as possible.

Common maintenance mistakes

  1. If you wear glasses on a regular basis, then you should always have wet wipes with you. In no case do not use the first fabric that comes to hand. It can scratch the lenses. The perfect combination is microfiber plus a wet wipe.
  2. Never breathe on the lenses of your glasses.
  3. Do not store your glasses with the lenses facing down. They will scratch very quickly and you will have to replace them with new ones.
  4. It is not desirable that various care products fall on glass (both plastic and ordinary). It can be hairspray, deodorant, perfume, and so on. It is better to remove glasses during their use. This is due to the fact that stains and drops that can get on the lenses are quite difficult to remove manually.

Glass care guide

  1. Take them off with both hands. This will help preserve the mounts and temples of your glasses.
  2. Do not wear glasses with your hair up. The screws that hold the glasses together can gradually loosen and the glasses themselves can bend.
  3. Do not leave glasses in direct sunlight. At temperatures above eighty degrees, the lenses can be severely damaged.
  4. Avoid hot steam when cleaning glasses. This can ruin the properties of the lenses.
  5. If the weather is bad outside, then use the appropriate means to maintain the integrity of the lenses.
  6. With scratches on the lenses, special attention should be paid to cleaning them.
  7. The right case will help you travel without worrying about accidentally breaking your glasses.

How to clean glasses? The question is quite relevant: in the warm season we hide from bright rays under sunglasses, while swimming we save ourselves with glasses from water getting into our eyes. Working at a computer also requires protection for the eyes, and even people with vision problems who have glasses designed to be worn all the time need an answer to this question like no one else.

One way or another, dirt appears on the glasses, especially if you wear glasses regularly. You can avoid touching the lenses with your fingers, this leads to the formation of greasy marks, however, fingers are not the only reason for cleaning: dust, scratches, greenery contribute to the formation of glasses cloudy. It would seem that it is easy to fix the situation with dust and grease - wipe the handkerchiefs, and the problem will disappear. However, everything is not so simple. In our article, we will tell you how to resolve the situation with pollution at home: how to properly clean glass lenses, plastic glasses, the frames of sunglasses and eyeglasses, what means to use so that there are no stains.

Glass cleaning

Cleaning the lenses of both sunglasses and eyeglasses should be approached with care. Before starting direct cleaning, you need to find out the material the lenses are made of: they are glass or plastic.

Glass glasses have a number of advantages: they have hardness, strength and are used by people with visual impairments; they serve for a long time, if, of course, they are properly cared for. In addition to the positive qualities, there are also negative ones:

  • if you order glass without relief, then the weight of the lens is large enough;
  • they are very fragile: one has only to accidentally touch the glasses on the table, they will fall to the ground and, if the glasses do not break, then scratches and scuffs will clearly appear on them;
  • need mandatory protection: it is recommended to store in special cases;
  • not everyone is satisfied with the appearance of such accessories: many people with vision problems are confused by how they will look in certain glasses;
  • in the case of large diopters, it is very difficult to choose a suitable frame for them.

Plastic glasses are not inferior to glass ones in their advantages: the weight of such lenses is much less, the price is acceptable and more affordable than glass lenses, both metal and plastic frames are easily selected.

Among the shortcomings, we can name a few of these: the material is soft, and therefore it is easy to damage it, scratches appear.

Glass glasses are "correctors" of vision, while glasses with plastic glasses are not used for this purpose.

There are a lot of reasons for cleaning glasses glasses: dust settling from the street, water drops, greasy marks after touching fingers, dots from cosmetics for eyelashes can remain on women's glasses. All this leads to the fact that the glasses for vision and sun glasses lose their transparency, becoming cloudy, the clarity of the image is lost due to spots literally in the middle of the glass, the contours of even objects that are close are blurred.

If you do not clean it in a timely manner, you risk not only “showing off” dirty glasses, but because you will squint, try to look at the picture, strain, “plant”, worsen your eyesight or get strabismus in your arsenal.

In order to clean glasses glasses, you will need to use disposable wet wipes, microfiber cloths, special liquids and sprays for cleaning dirt, soap, hair shampoo, any dishwashing detergent.

Means

Mode of application

Wet wipes

Glasses can be cleaned with wet wipes, but only those that are designed for this. To purchase just such suitable ones, you should go for them to a specialized store or optician. Do not buy any lying on the shelves in the supermarket. A huge advantage of using wet wipes is the fact that they contain antibacterial substances that will not only clean the glass from dust, greenery and grease, but also eliminate microbes and bacteria. But among the minuses - left divorces.

If the lenses of the glasses are not seriously soiled with grease or greens, you can clean them under running water. Simply run them under a low pressure stream for 30 seconds or a minute and then simply wipe them down with a microfiber cloth or leave them on a paper towel to dry completely.

Toothpaste

Using toothpaste, you can remove minor scratches on the glass. Apply the product to each lens of the glasses and wipe in a circular motion with a cotton pad or swab, without applying force.

At home, glasses can be cleaned with ordinary toilet soap. And if you still have it in a liquid state - great. Wash your hands first, as handling glass with dirty fingers is unacceptable. Next, hold the glasses under running warm water so that the liquid gets on both sides - the outer and inner. Apply liquid soap to the index and thumb fingers and wipe the lenses with smooth movements from side to side. Rinse under running water and place the glasses on a tissue to allow any remaining drops to drip off. If time is running out, you urgently need your glasses, and there are no special microfiber cloths on hand, a dry paper towel will come in handy. Do not rub the glass in a circular motion, but only blot it.

Microfiber cloths

Microfiber cloths are best for removing dust, fingerprints and other dirt from glasses. This material is quite soft and does not leave scratches on surfaces. You can use these wipes to clean both glass and plastic glasses.

An alternative to microfiber cloths are suede cloths, which are good for removing stains from glass glasses.

Baking soda is an excellent tool to help remove scratches from the surface of the lenses of glasses. Dissolve some powder in water until a thick mixture is formed. Apply the resulting mass in a small amount to the optics and in a circular motion, using a cotton pad, wipe.

Special funds

To clean glass at home, the best way is to use professional products that can be purchased at pharmacies, opticians, stores specializing in the sale of optical accessories. When buying liquids or sprays, you need to consult with the seller or pharmacist, you need to select them for the material from which the glasses are made. Means for plastic glasses are quite suitable for glass, while the use of glass sprays and liquids is not suitable for cleaning plastic glasses. Purchase liquids that do not contain alcohol, as they are not recommended for removing dust, greasy marks and other contaminants.

Start cleaning the glass: with clean hands, apply the purchased product, whether liquid or spray, over the entire surface with even, smooth movements, and then wipe with a soft microfiber cloth. When doing this, do not put a lot of effort, be careful and careful, in order to avoid damage to glass glasses for vision or sunglasses with plastic lenses.

In the cold season, always carry napkins with you, as glasses in transport, in shops, and other institutions fog up when the temperature changes. Keep an anti-fog spray handy too.

Shampoo or dishwashing liquid

Hair and dish detergents also clean eyeglass lenses well. Take a small container and fill it with water, adding a couple of drops of shampoo or dishwashing liquid to the liquid. Put sunglasses or eyeglasses into the resulting solution.. After a certain period of time, remove the accessory and rinse under running water, washing off the remaining soapy liquid. Next, blot the glasses with a napkin or leave the water to drain by placing the glasses on paper.

Eyeglass frame cleaning

You can clean the frames of glasses at home with the same wet wipes that you use to wipe glasses.

Thanks to this procedure, the coating of the frame does not quickly wear off and will not be scratched.

If greenery appears on the frame of your glasses, you should replace it with a better one. In case you are going to try to clean the frame of this contamination, take a screwdriver and unscrew the nose pads. Next, with a toothbrush, dipping it in soapy water or dishwashing liquid, remove the greens.

  • In no case do not wipe the glasses of sunglasses or eyeglasses with your clothes, even from natural cotton fabric or a piece of material, wetting them in acetic solution, ammonia and other alcohol-containing preparations, special glass and mirror cleaners. Vinegar and other liquids will harm plastic glasses.
  • Keep your glasses in a case. A more reliable option would be a hard one, since storage in a soft case will not protect against bumps and accidental clicks. You can also put a microfiber cloth in a special container for glasses, so that it is always at hand.
  • It is recommended to put on and take off glasses with both hands so that the temples do not deform.
  • Wearing glasses as a hair hoop should also not be, as this will contribute to the expansion of the temples.
  • Even if you do not wear glasses all the time, but, for example, put them on while working at a computer in the office, take a microfiber cloth with you. In case of turbidity, you can easily clean dirty glasses.
  • Rinse your glasses regularly under running warm water as a preventive measure.
  • Don't forget to clean your frames. The same products are suitable for this as for cleaning glasses.
  • Avoid direct sunlight on the lens, as this will reduce its quality.

So you learned how to clean glasses at home. We have offered you several options for cleansing - choose the one that suits you. Good luck!

Each ophthalmologist's patient who has corrective glasses should know how to properly care for the lenses, since during the day the glasses become covered with dust, dirt and grease, and such contamination significantly impairs visual acuity. In order not to damage the lenses and maintain excellent visibility, it is necessary to choose the right method for cleaning, for this, initially figure out how to wipe the glasses so that there are no streaks, and how often this needs to be done.

Basic rules for eyeglass care

Glasses are an invariable companion of a fifth of the entire population of the globe, and sunglasses in general have become an attribute of style.

Why wipe your glasses?

What should be a rag to wipe glasses? Modern manufacturing techniques have made the glasses better, stronger and more stylish than their decades-old predecessors. But even despite the high quality of workmanship, glasses are subjected to daily testing. Skin particles, sweat-and-fat fingerprints, dust contribute to the formation of stains on the lenses, which literally eat in over time and are difficult to remove. Such contaminated glasses reduce visibility by almost a third, and cause fatigue, redness of the eyes and blurred vision for the wearer of the lenses. Therefore, it is so important and necessary to know how to clean glasses and what means to choose for this.

What are glasses and lenses?

Before you remove dust from glasses so that there are no stains, you need to know what exactly they are made of. Corrective lenses are:

  • Plastic.
  • Glass.

Important! If you spend a lot of time at a PC, learn separately about how such an accessory differs from conventional models.

Some care nuances depend on the type of lenses:

  1. For the glass version, special liquids, spray cleaners and wet wipes are provided to wipe the optics. Special products are sold in every pharmacy and optics store, in addition, additional specialist advice is not required to purchase them.
  2. For progressive plastic models of optics, such products are clearly not suitable, since plastic is very soft, brittle and easily scratched in its structure. The only thing that can come up from care products is a microfiber cloth.
  3. Even more modern and progressive models with an anti-reflective or protective coating require especially careful care. To wipe this type of optics designed to work at a computer, you definitely need a special cleaner for special glasses, and home remedies: vinegar, any alkaline solution - are strictly prohibited. The same rule applies to photochromic glasses, as they can also be with diopters.

Important! When buying an optical device, be sure to find out in the optics center how to properly care for the lenses and how to clean the glasses in order to protect yourself during further use.

How to protect glasses from pollution?

To protect your glasses from dirt and keep them safe, follow these guidelines:

  1. Store your glasses in a special case or case. We recommend giving preference to a rigid and tightly closed version.
  2. Before buying a case with a lock, check that the lock is securely closed.
  3. Keep the case clean. Timely clean it from dust and crumbs that can make the optics unusable.
  4. For people leading an active lifestyle, we recommend using a strap or chain for optics. The glasses on the strap will not be broken or lost when moving.
  5. When taking off or putting on glasses, hold them by the temples with both hands.
  6. Do not place your glasses upside down as this may scratch the lenses.
  7. After use, put the glasses with the temples down immediately in the case.
  8. Protect glasses from direct sunlight, especially plastic models “do not like” sudden changes in temperature.
  9. Use glasses only for their intended purpose, do not wear them in the form of a headband, so as not to ruin the temples. In addition, wearing in the form of a headband can deform the frame, and the lenses will not be located symmetrically. And from such an arrangement of optics, the eyes will begin to overwork.
  10. Make sure that caustic chemicals, varnishes and paints do not get on the glasses.
  11. Never use broken and defective glasses - it is harmful to the eyes.
  12. Do not try to repair the optics yourself; in the event of a breakdown, contact specialized shops for repairmen.
  13. To prevent the glasses from fogging up in the cold season, use special wipes or sprays that will prevent the formation of perspiration on the lenses.
  14. Periodically tighten the screws on the temple mounts. It is better to entrust this procedure to the master, who at the same time will adjust the temples to your size.
  15. If there are scratches or other damage on the surface of the lenses that cannot be removed, replace the lenses with new ones, as this may affect your vision.
  16. Change the lenses of your glasses once a year or every two years. With proper care, the life of the glasses is approximately three years, but once every six months, undergo an examination by a specialist. In case of a change in the quality of vision, change the old optics to a new one that is more suitable. To do this, read our useful article in a detailed overview of the pros and cons of different materials at the link.

What can not be cleaned glasses?

If you are trying to extend the life of your optics as long as possible and are puzzled by the question of how to wipe your glasses so that there are no streaks, never use:

  • Cloth that happened to be at hand.
  • The edge of a shirt, a handkerchief, a cotton rag, because there is probably dust on all this matter that can scratch the lenses.
  • Paper towels that contain coarse fibers - they can easily scratch the surface of the optics.
  • Ammonia.
  • Bleach.
  • Vinegar.
  • Glass cleaner - cleaning the lenses with window cleaner will break the protective coating that screens out ultraviolet light.

How to clean glasses without streaks?

To date, there are many ways and means for cleaning optics:

  • Spray cleaners.
  • Microfiber wipes.
  • Disposable wipes.
  • Warm soapy water.

Consider how to wipe glasses without streaks using the above tools.

Liquids and spray cleaners

Special fluids have been developed for the care of glasses and other optics. They contain certain components that can remove any complex contamination, including greasy stains.

Special fluids do not injure the lenses, moreover, they have antistatic properties. In the cold season, it is necessary to choose liquids for the care of optics with anti-fogging components.

Important! To protect yourself from fakes, purchase spray cleaners at official optics centers. Be sure to purchase dry wipes along with the cleaner to wipe the glasses without streaks.

Microfiber cloths

Soft napkins have long been popular and in demand. They perfectly remove dirt from glasses without leaving streaks. The microfiber cloth is very convenient to use throughout the day, it perfectly absorbs dust from the optics.

The napkin is used without the use of any detergents and cleaning agents. However, it needs care, as during the day the napkin can get dirty and lose its functional properties. Keep the microfiber cloth in a special case, and wash it from time to time.

Important! Instead of a napkin, you can use a piece of ordinary suede - it is perfect for wiping glasses without streaks. Such napkins made of suede are sold in optical stores.

Disposable wipes

Optical stores also offer disposable cleaning wipes in addition to glasses. They are made of a very soft special fiber, which not only does not scratch the delicate surface of the lenses, but also removes dirt from the surface of the glasses and from micropores.

Important! Each wipe is impregnated with a special solution that allows you to wipe the glasses without streaks and very quickly.

The advantage of wet wipes is their antibacterial property, which allows them to be used in any situation, for example, you can wipe your hands or any object with a delicate surface with wipes.

Disposable wipes are simply indispensable for people leading an active lifestyle, as they can be used anywhere and in any situation.

Warm soapy water

During the day, it is very good to use microfiber cloths or wet wipes to clean your glasses, but no procedure replaces regular washing of optics with soap. This is a great way to deal with dirt on lenses and frames.

You can use any detergent without aggressive chemical components:

  • Soft soap.
  • Shampoo.
  • Shower gel.
  • Mild dishwashing detergent.

Use warm soapy water as follows:

  1. Rinse the glass under running warm water. Keep the lenses under water for 20 seconds, rinse the optics from dust in front and behind.
  2. Dissolve one of the above detergents in warm water.
  3. Apply the resulting foam to the lenses (on both sides) using a soft cloth or fingers (index - on the outer edge of the glass, thumb - on the inside).
  4. Wipe the lenses from side to side. Circular movements are not recommended.
  5. Remove dirt between lenses and frames.
  6. Use cotton swabs to clean the various frame mounts.
  7. Rinse your goggles under running water.
  8. Blot the optics with a dry soft cloth to avoid streaks.

The disadvantage of this method is that it cannot be used outside the home. But regardless of the daily cleaning method you choose, use soapy water twice a month.

Important! When washing optics, use room temperature water, as too hot or too cold water will adversely affect the lenses and frames. And separately take note of the methods,.

  1. When cleaning sunglasses or optics with plastic frames, pay attention to the gap where dirt “likes” to collect. Pour a little alcohol into a small container, dip a cotton swab in alcohol and wipe the gap between the glasses and the frame. Change the tampon after each wipe.
  2. Wipe the glasses so that there are no streaks, it is better during the evening or morning hygiene session:
    • Wash your hands with soap.
    • Rinse glasses with running water from both sides.
    • Take the glasses with one hand, and lather the fingers of the other hand with soap.
    • Wipe glass with soapy water.
    • Rinse off the soap solution under running water.
    • Repeat rinsing several times to avoid soap streaks.
  3. You can dry your glasses by placing them on the table. To keep the glasses in a vertical position, open the glasses, and rest the temples of the frame on the surface of the table.
  4. After the cleaning process is completed, check its quality. Take the glasses by the frame handles and hold them up to the light (no sun). If you are satisfied with the quality of cleaning, then wear glasses, if not, repeat the process of degreasing and wiping.

footage

There is nothing complicated in caring for optics. Adhere to the rules of use and carefully treat the glasses so that they provide clarity and contrast of the image for a long time at close and far distances. Be healthy!

Damage, stains, and dirt can cause your glasses to fog up, thereby significantly limiting your vision. And while scratched lenses are almost impossible to restore to their former clarity, there are methods by which you can clean cloudy glasses without damaging the lenses. With the right tools on hand and the right lens cleaning skills, you'll soon see blue skies where you've only seen cloudy lenses before.

Steps

Clearing Cloudy Lenses

Take a soft, clean cloth. New glasses bought from an optical store usually come with a microfiber cloth that is specifically designed to clean the lenses. This cloth is ideal for cleaning up stains and haze.

Use glass cleaner. This fluid has been specially formulated to remove dirt stains without damaging lenses or their coatings. Spray some cleaner on the windows and wipe them with a soft, clean cloth.

Use dish detergent and warm water. If you don't have glass cleaner on hand, you can use a drop of dishwashing detergent and warm water to remove dirt and restore the lenses to their original shine. Using your fingers, gently smear the product on the surface of the lenses. Then rinse off the cleanser with warm water and evaluate the result.

Wipe the goggles with a soft cloth. Once you have completely rinsed off the cleaner, take a soft cloth and wipe the lenses dry with light circular motions. Try not to rub the lenses hard, as this can damage them over time.

Inspect lenses for stubborn stains. Depending on how heavily soiled your glasses are, you may need to apply the cleaner again to completely clean the lenses. After rinsing out another portion of the cleaner or dishwashing detergent with hot water, wipe the lenses with a soft cloth.

Scrape off plaque from the nose pads. Oil and dust can accumulate in the gap between the nose pads and lenses, creating a cloudy film around your nose. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush, dish soap, and warm water to scrape off this messy buildup. The main thing is not to rub the lenses themselves with a toothbrush.

    • Fill a bowl or other container with soapy warm water.
    • Dip your toothbrush into the solution and stir it.
    • Gently scratch the metal piece that connects the nose pad to the frame of your glasses.
    • Rinse your toothbrush in water/soap solution to remove any accumulated dirt and plaque.
    • Rinse your goggles in warm water.
    • If there is still dirt on the glasses, continue to scrape off the plaque until it is completely removed.
  1. Protect the lens cleaning cloth from getting particles on it. The more dust and dirt gets on the fabric, the more damage they will cause to the lenses. Every time you dry, wipe, or polish your lenses, these particles will rub against your glasses.

    • To keep your lens cleaning cloth clean, keep it in your eyeglass case, which you carry around with you all day. You can also put the fabric in a plastic bag or other container and put it in your backpack or bag.
  2. Wash the lens cloth. Depending on the material of the fabric, the washing process may vary. A soft cotton fabric can be washed like any other fabric, but it's best to follow the instructions that come with the fabric. To clean a microfiber cloth, do the following:

Clean your lenses regularly. During the day, the goggles will pick up dust, dirt and oil from your face and hands. Wipe your lenses regularly with a cleaner or warm water and detergent to reduce the amount of haze on your glasses.

Keep your glasses in a case when you are not wearing them. This will protect the goggles from dust and damage. Put the glasses first in the case, and only then on the bedside table. This will protect your glasses from damage if you accidentally drop them.
