The deal to transfer a controlling stake in CJSC Football Club was very profitable for the banker Traktovenko, who was already one of the hundred richest people in Russia. But from his own media project, which promised nothing but losses, he was not going to refuse.

The best reporters specializing in goals, points, seconds were lured into a sports baby for salaries never seen before in the journalistic community of St. Petersburg. The newspaper was immediately registered as a federal publication and, unlike Moscow, began to appear in color and seven days a week.

Ironic St. Petersburg reporters from among those who did not get into the staff of "Sports Day by Day", nicknamed the newspaper "The Star of David" or "Green Sports".

They did not dare to design the front page in blue-white-blue colors after Zenit ceased to be the brainchild of Traktovenko. There could be no talk of red-white or blue-red.

The original concept had to be changed. Having won certain positions in the St. Petersburg market (although in the best of times, Sport Day after Day was inferior in circulation even to the modest Sport Weekend, which lives only on sales), Green Sport decided to conquer Moscow, and after it - and all of Russia. The newspaper began to be distributed in the capital and regions, and the Moscow office became a full-fledged part of the editorial board.

Entering the print media market, where there were already two monsters, was very difficult in the middle of the 2000s. The leaders of the federal St. Petersburg edition tried to lure the "golden feathers" from these monsters, but the sharks of the sports pen did not fall for the proposed exorbitant fees.

Meanwhile, most of the St. Petersburg stars engaged at the first stage of the creation of the newspaper left Sport Day after Day, despite attractive financial conditions. St. Petersburg failed to win its own segment in the market of daily publications in Moscow, and a magazine began to be published in the capital once a week.

One could write a fascinating story in the style of the Star of David. But why, if everything has already been described using the example of the New American? Of course, Traktovenko did not demand to buy ordinary paper for printing photographs or replace pork with stuffed fish in editorials, but the losses of the publishing house he headed every year worried the businessman more and more.

The ex-president of Zenit instructed his son to lead his media project. Togo, apparently, the prospect of becoming a Russian sports Rupert Murdoch did not appeal.

According to experts in the journalistic community of St. Petersburg, the Star of David annually costs Traktovenko $3-4 million.

Unlike Zenit, this asset cannot be sold profitably. Neither nor do they need personal mouthpieces.

In the Traktovenko publishing house, in recent years, they have been constantly looking for reserves for savings. In the seventh year of existence, they took a drastic measure. The Moscow part of the project with the highest paid authors and an expensive office was completely liquidated.

The St. Petersburg newspaper is not being touched yet, although salaries there are by no means outrageous now. Colleagues speak of David Traktovenko as a very decent person who will not throw them out into the street. After all, it is not easy to find a job in the field of sports journalism in St. Petersburg now. The idea of ​​the ex-president of the "blue-white-blue" press is now being successfully carried out by the forces of Zenith itself.

At current prices for the production and distribution of printed publications, it is almost impossible to make them profitable. There is no need to talk about the advertising market. He is our manager.

And the circle of readers, accustomed to savoring the printed word and cutting out tables, is shrinking. It is no coincidence that even Green Sport is now going to bet on the Internet. But for expansion in this market, solid investments will be required, which may not be included in the Traktovenko family budget. Moreover, for the promotion of the Australian club, which he bought (jokers say that Sydney will be renamed Zenith), a special edition is absolutely not needed.
