MSU zoopsychology. Applied zoopsychology (in hippology, cynology)

A zoopsychologist is a specialist who studies the nature of an animal and corrects its behavior.

Description of the profession of a zoopsychologist

The profession of a zoopsychologist is one of the young and gaining popularity in the world. In Russia, however, it is not as well known as the specialty of cynologists and animal trainers.

Animal psychology is a branch of science that studies the nature and behavior of animals in both wild nature, and among domesticated individuals. However, the main specialization of animal psychologists is the study of wild animals. The subject of study is the various behavioral strategies of individuals in nature: how they react to external influences, study and cognize the world, how they interact with other individuals, how their memory and intellect are arranged, etc.

However, it is not surprising that the achievements of scientists eventually migrated to the applied industry in the form of correcting the behavior of pets.

Features of the profession of a zoopsychologist

Animals, like people, are subject to stress, experience psychological trauma and fears. The main problem is that a person can tell the therapist about his problems. In the case of a dog or cat, the specialist must independently find the causes.

A zoopsychologist working with pets faces several main problems: aggressive behavior of a pet, or his fear of any dangers. In this case, the specialist should understand the cause of the strange behavior, and then work with the owner to try to fix the problem.

However, zoopsychologists treat not only indoor pets. Their knowledge is needed agriculture. For example, a zoopsychologist can find the cause of a decrease in milk yield in cows.

The main responsibilities of a zoopsychologist:

    establishing contact between the owner and the pet;

    correction of animal behavior;

    support during social adaptation;

    training, education and training of an animal (for dogs, courses of OKD and UGS);

Zoopsychologist and trainer: what's the difference?

The profession of a zoopsychologist is quite young, so they are often confused with cynologists and animal trainers. However, the differences are more than significant. First, a zoopsychologist does not teach commands to animals. Secondly, it mainly helps to understand the pet's psyche and build correct system behavior, reaction to the owner. However, the main contingent of zoopsychologists are dog owners, so it is not surprising that they are not distinguished from cynologists.

In addition, the zoopsychologist for the most part works with the owner himself, to the extent that he gives recommendations on choosing one or another animal.

Professional requirements for a zoopsychologist

The work of a zoopsychologist requires a specialist to constantly develop, study new techniques. There is no place for routine in it, because each case requires an individual solution.

A zoopsychologist should help owners and pets find contact with each other, understand the reasons for anomalies in the behavior of the animal, and discover the source of stress.

A zoopsychologist requires such qualities as:

    sensitivity;

    firmness of character;

    persuasiveness;

    flexibility;

    patience.

Most often, owners of dogs or cats turn to a zoopsychologist, but there are also cases when you have to work with horses or cattle.

The zoopsychologist should pay great attention working with animal breeders. Just as in the case of human psychology, early experience strongly influences the animal and its behavior. If you do not tame him to certain actions from the very early age, then this can manifest itself in the idea of various deviations.

A zoopsychologist needs knowledge in such areas as:

    psychology;

    physiology;

    neurophysiology;

    ethology.

Jobs for a zoopsychologist in the labor market and salary levels

Since the specialty of an animal psychologist is not very widely known in Russia, it is not easy to find open vacancies.

Experienced specialists do not hide the fact that most often clients transmit information about them to each other "the old fashioned way". Therefore, on initial stage When there is not enough experience and a well-established customer base, it is worth trying to get an internship in a team of experienced professionals.

Where can a zoopsychologist work

Animal psychologists usually work in organizations such as:

    research institutes with a specialization in zoology and animal husbandry;

    veterinary clinics;

    agricultural enterprises;

    private practice.

Where do they study zoopsychologists

To get a higher education in the specialty of animal psychology, you can enter the faculty of psychology or biology.

There are also short-term courses that provide an introductory knowledge of zoopsychology, which are also suitable for pet owners. They teach for zoopsychologists in the same place as for ordinary psychologists.

* Extramural learning using distance learning technologies

The semi-legal trade in four-legged live goods in Russia has become a powerful business sector with billions in shadow turnover.
It is not surprising that many seekers of easy money labor in this field.

Supply is generated by demand.
Therefore, let's start with those townsfolk who, under the hypnosis of a zombie man, suddenly fall into a shopping ecstasy and begin to buy fashionable breeds of dogs and cats indiscriminately. The same as the heroes of their favorite programs and TV shows.

Breeders are sensitive to the rush demand and begin mass production of popular breeds. Fortunately, such activities in Russia are not officially regulated in any way and are not subject to taxes.

At the same time, unscrupulous owners of cat and puppy factories do not disdain inbreeding and the most severe exploitation of females, who are forced to give birth and give birth without respite, in terrible unsanitary conditions.

As a result, the produced "product" (kittens and puppies) often turns out to be defective, that is, with mental defects.
Unlike exterior flaws, these flaws are not immediately visible. And buyers begin to notice them only when the dog or cat has already grown up.

Our people are mostly kind, but at the same time greedy. And therefore, not everyone raises a hand to lull or throw out an expensive acquisition that turned out to be of poor quality. Sometimes even bought on credit.

And here comes the holiday on the street of those who call themselves zoopsychologists.
They offer, for a moderate fee, to "repair" a cat or dog, making it "serviceable."
That is, to eliminate all behavioral problems that make the coexistence of owners with this animal uncomfortable.

The activity of such “specialists” who, instead of a diploma of higher psychological education, shows you some certificate of completion of courses or other similar document, comes down to dubious experiments on the psyche of your animal in isolation from your personal characteristics, needs, motives and psychological problems.
In addition, they often resort to elements of training, not being trainers, they try to assign drug treatment, not being veterinarians, ultimately causing indelible harm to both you and your pet.

In this regard, the Kind World Foundation for the Development of Zoohumanism offers readers some information that will help them navigate this issue.

SO.

Let's start with the fact that in Russia there is no official specialty "Zoopsychologist".

Yes, and abroad too.

In developed European countries, where for a long time (compared to Russia) there is a well-established practice of training and certification of specialists in the field of pet behavior.

For example, in the US, UK, Australia, a specialist working with pet behavior problems is called Applied Animal Behaviorist. A highly qualified specialist in this field of activity is called a Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist or Certified Applied Animal Behavior Concultant.

As you can see, the term "animal psychologist" is not mentioned at all, because professional activity in the field of correction of the behavior of animals (especially domestic animals) requires a huge amount of applied knowledge. (At the same time, of course, basic specialized education is a must).

Even veterinarians Those who have extensive experience in dealing with pets cannot be considered behavioral consultants because the study of the psyche of a pet is impossible in isolation from the owner and the conditions that he creates for his pupil.
That means work with an animal as a zoopsychologist and with the owner as a psychologist at the same time, that is, the problems that have arisen must be considered in the “human-animal” system, and not in isolation from one another. Only with this approach it is possible to achieve the desired results.

In other words, zoopsychology is a branch of psychology and the work of a zoopsychologist with pets is closely related to work with their owners!

For example, in Russia there is a Laboratory of Animal Psychology of the Department general psychology Faculty of Psychology, Moscow State University. M.V. Lomonosov, and in the same university, in 2008, at the Faculty of Psychology as part of a postgraduate additional education the specialization "Psychology of Pets" was opened for persons with higher psychological, veterinary, biological and zootechnical education.

At present, departments of zoopsychology are already available at the psychological faculties of many universities, but the specialty "animal psychologist" is not listed in the register of specialties of any of the Russian state higher educational institutions. Therefore, the graduate receives first of all, a state diploma of higher professional education in the specialty PSYCHOLOGIST and, in addition to it, a certificate of completion of a course in animal psychology.

Animal psychology is a narrow specialization chosen by people who love animals and study their psyche.
Not every certified psychologist can work as a zoopsychologist.
Therefore, real specialists in animal psychology are few and you will not see them on your TV screens and you will not hear them on your favorite radio stations. At the same time, impostors are distributing advice left and right in the mass media and feel confident enough to deceive an audience of thousands.

What other signs, besides having a diploma of higher psychological education, will allow the owner of an animal to distinguish a real zoopsychologist from a charlatan!?

We suggest you pay attention to the following:

1. In no case should a zoopsychologist offer any methods of violence for behavior correction (ignoring, special collars).

2. Should not give ready-made recipes for behavior correction. Any work with a dog should be based on an individual approach.

3. Before starting work with the dog, he must identify: is she sick with something, does she have chronic diseases or pain. He should ask about all the sources of stress in the dog and show the owner a way to eliminate this stress.

4. He should not try to treat the dog with medication.

5. Work with the dog should not be carried out without the presence of the owner, for example, during overexposure. In no case should a dog be left to a specialist so that he “works with it himself” - only the owner himself always works here. The specialist only looks for a way to solve the problem and helps the owner in his work.

6. The specialist works to improve the contact between the dog and the person. To do this, he must understand how the contact between the owner and the dog is built, and help the owner create such a contact in which the dog would feel comfortable. To do this, the owner needs to explain some rules of communication with the dog, its language. In this case, we are talking about the dog's signals of reconciliation, about his factors that cause him stress, about proper nutrition etc.

7. When a specialist meets a dog for the first time, the dog should already after a short time (maximum 1-2 meetings) feel sympathy for him, not reject him!

8. The specialist himself should behave calmly, relaxed, his movements should be soft and slow, his voice should be calm. He should not pester the dog and rape her with his communication. It should be pleasant to both the owner and the dog. The dog should not be nervous from communicating with a specialist.

In conclusion, let's give a story about how home-grown "animal psychologists" are stamped out in St. Petersburg.

The other day I came across an interesting fact.
A pair of faces proudly calling themselves zoopsychologists, foaming at the mouthdefended a certain Svetlana Ilinskaya from the ANO "Center for Legal Animal Protection", which advocates the killing of homeless animals and the widespread distribution of contact zoos in Russia.

In this regard, I thought - what kind of thing is this, zoopsychology, whose adherents consider normal phenomena killing dogs and cats in trouble, as well as torturing animals in private animal prisons!?

Well, the fact that many so-called. "zoopsychologists" earn their living in KZ (petting zoos), Dmitry Tarasov himself let slip - the owner of the Kompanion center, where during the whole6 months (!) and for about 700 euros you can get zoopsychologist certificate state sample:

Animals in KZ" ...have excellent food, 24-hour veterinary care, and in many places even a psychologist...." informed Dmitry Tarasov on Facebook:

In other words, the profession of a zoopsychologist is in demand and it is possible to “recapture” the costs of acquiring a certificate from Tarasov quite quickly. After all, even if you can’t arrange a job in a short circuit at some mall, you can always earn money at home and get a lot of money teaching dog owners online:

What kind of knowledge and what kind of education does a person who takes the liberty of assigning the title of "zoopsychologist" to those who wish to have!?

We found the answer to this question on the page of this very Dmitry Tarasov, who titles himself asHead of the Department of Zoopsychology of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (National Open Institute of Russia, St. Petersburg).

Here is how he describes his education:

At this University, you can not only get a paid higher education, but also take courses and advanced training. Many of these courses are free, money is taken only for a certificate, but it can be different and you can get it different ways. For 25 rubles you will be given this certificate to download, and you can print it yourself. The certificate indicates the name of the course, the number of hours, the seal of the university and the signature of the rector. You can also download the certificate from English language. After paying for the certificate, you will also have access to a link to it, which you can place in your resume and on the Internet...
this educational institution is designed for distance learning,and the diploma is quite even quoted by employers.

The Academy opens courses in zoopsychology and comparative psychology

In January 2019, we are opening a new one and a half month course in zoopsychology. The Academy of the Moscow Zoo offers an academic course in zoopsychology and comparative psychology. The basic part of this course is based on lectures given at the Faculty of Psychology of Moscow State University. M.V. Lomonosov by employees of the laboratory of zoopsychology under the direction of K.E. Fabry, which was significantly supplemented modern ideas in the field of psychology, cognitive and emotional abilities of animals. We give a special place to the causes of the development of pathological forms of behavior and the psyche, as well as issues related to their prevention and correction.

The course includes hands-on animal observation exercises in which participants will learn to describe their behavior, separating it from interpretation.
Animal psychology is now a very popular discipline. Many practitioners, when offering pet training services or handling pet problems, need to know about the mental, cognitive and emotional capabilities of their pets. Unfortunately, “zoopsychology” today is often represented only by a set of practical techniques (often quite successful) and empirical experience in changing the behavior of pets and their owners and does not rely on broader, systemic ideas about the laws and features of the functioning of the psyche.

Originating as one of the branches of psychology, zoopsychology is developing criteria mental reflection, considers the causes and conditions for the appearance mental forms reflections and their development in the course of evolution, studies cognitive and emotional characteristics different types animals and their connection with the peculiarities of their life. One of the most intriguing and intensively developing areas of scientific zoopsychology at present is the study of the ontogeny (individual development) of mental abilities and the intricacies between "innate" and "acquired" personality traits and ways to learn. And, of course, the scope of interest of scientific zoopsychology includes the search for similarities and differences between animals and humans, as well as answers to the question of whether people are unique creatures in this world or are just a little different from their “smaller brothers”.

Our course is designed for people with higher or special secondary vocational education.

Classes are held once a week for 4 academic hours (from 19.00 to 22.15) for 1.5 months, in total 28 academic hours + 10 hours of independent work. First session January 22, 2019. The cost of the course is 32500 rubles.
After completing the course, according to the results of passing the test, students will be able to receive a diploma of advanced training in the discipline "Zoopsychology and comparative psychology".

I lead classest:

Elena Fedorovich, Candidate of Psychological Sciences, member of the Faculty of Psychology, Lomonosov Moscow State University
M.V. Lomonosov, head of the zoopsychology group at the Department of General Psychology, student of K.E. Fabry.

Irina Semenova, employee of the Faculty of Psychology, Moscow State University. M.V. Lomonosov, zoopsychology group.

You can apply for training here.

Everything you wanted to know about dogs.

15 years of my experience + experience and knowledge of dozens of specialists from different fields (from veterinary medicine to human psychology) + hundreds of scientific papers - in one course.

Yes, I have my own methodology and point of view, but on the course I try to show all the variety of approaches in studying, training and correcting the behavior of dogs. After all, in order to correct your dog or help strangers, you must learn to think freely, and not repeat jagged facts or someone else's opinion.

This course is designed to be interactive, with the ability to communicate with the lecturer. Because recording a lecture will not teach you to think, look for answers to questions on your own, improvise and believe in yourself.

Yulia Bespyatykh

(Belarus)

"Yulia Islamova's Applied Animal Psychology course is very cool. It's not a scheme, not a dogma, not a common truth. It is for people who are looking for, who love to learn and think, to look for answers, and not to receive them on a silver platter.
Julia is an amazing person, a very talented teacher and, of course, a professional in her field. And this is especially pleasant after several seminars and webinars I attended by other cynologists, after which, to be honest, I wanted to say "give me back my money!"

Marina Zasim

(Russia, Miass)

"After this course, as after reading a good book, you will never be the same again. At the same time, you will look at yourself, your dog, your family and the environment. You will have a social circle in a warm, friendly fb group, you will be happy and sad , laugh to tears and sob.

In addition to everything that is written above, I received great inspiration, new goals in life, an understanding of where to move and why it is necessary.

DO YOU NEED THIS COURSE?

Applied Animal Psychology web course is designed for anyone who wants to learn, understand and know more about dogs.

It is not only people who want to work in the field of training and behavior correction. This includes ordinary dog owners who lack their knowledge to correct their dog's behavior problems. These are those who just love dogs and love to learn.

The only requirement that I want to put forward is the understanding that I do not give knowledge on a silver platter. I'am a teacher. I teach to think. And help me understand.

Why don't I just want to give ready-made knowledge? Because knowledge without understanding, awareness and logic is worth nothing. And logic, understanding and awareness cannot be transferred from the Teacher to the student.

And further. I call for training only those who are sure that they are ready to break their brains, feel like an idiot, make mistakes and curse me and my meticulousness with the last words. I honestly warn you - it will not be easy for those who will study with me))

If you're ready, I'm glad. If not, but you have acquaintances/friends who want to, tell them about this opportunity.

WHAT IS THIS COURSE ABOUT?

The course is divided into 4 interconnected parts:

1. Building general idea about the dog(anatomy, physiology, first aid, thinking, sociality, instincts, needs and their implementation, mental and hormonal system features, periods of growing up, dog language, breed features, etc.)

This part is necessary to understand the norm of dog behavior, to understand the logic by which he lives. this species, in order to learn to see the connection between anatomy, physiology, mental processes and behavior, because they are interconnected and influence each other constantly and in everything.

2. Education and training(methods of training and training systems, the possibility of influencing the dog, the peculiarities of the dog's perception of people's behavior, the peculiarities of training dogs of different ages/breeds/temperament/character, raising a puppy and adult dog, etc.)

This part is necessary in order to tie together all the knowledge gained in the first part and learn to understand specific live dogs, as well as understand how, why and what the dog reacts to and how to use it in education and training. Including training is considered as an integral part of behavior correction.

3. Behavior correction and psychocorrection(stress, dog habits, fears, aggression, fear of loneliness, uncleanliness, neurosis, neurotic states and other behavioral problems - what is it, what to do about it, why and how it happens, methods of treatment, etc.)

This part is the most difficult, it is completely devoted to various deviations from the norm of dog behavior, the reasons for these deviations, the ability to see, understand and diagnose problems, as well as independently select possible options corrections.

4. About people (mistakes of the owners and their consequences, the influence of the attitude towards the dog on its character, how to work with people different types, interdependence psych. problems of owners and behavior problems of dogs, human psychology and its use while working with owners and dogs, etc.)

This part is especially interesting, because the dog and the person live side by side in a kind of symbiosis, and you need to learn to understand yourself, your body language, in order to learn how to properly contact an individual of another species. And also learning how to interact with dog owners who need help is the most difficult thing in the work of a behavior corrector. It is not enough to be able to understand dogs well, because each dog is inextricably linked with its owner and it is impossible to correct their relationship by approaching only from the side of the dog.

During the course there will be not only training, but also the opportunity to test your skills on test tasks. After each part, a control lecture is provided, at which it will be possible to analyze all the questions that have arisen and test the acquired knowledge.

The guided practice is free!

If you live in Moscow or close to it, the practice is open all year round.

For out-of-towners: from mid-spring to mid-autumn, you can come to Moscow for any period of time and learn how to work with dogs, putting your knowledge into practice and gaining confidence in your strengths, skills and abilities.

Disadvantages of offline learning:- you will be able to listen/download only the first 3 parts (since the last part is intended for those who are going to use their knowledge in a professional field)- you will not be able to ask your questions during the seminars and you will have to write them down in order to ask them to the lecturer later- you will not have practice (the possibility of practice remains, but for an additional fee)

All organizational issues are resolved through the administrator.

Details about the timing of registration, time and cost of the training course can be clarified by mail [email protected]

"It was an interesting adventure and knowledge that I needed very much for minimal money, because such a quantity of material received is priceless.
For the first time in 4 years of living in the USA, I regretted that I was not in Russia and could not have real practice at Yulia's site in an accessible mode. But even like this, at a distance, we succeeded with her. Happened!
